Week Commencing 5th September

The children in Jeffers Class have made a good start to their learning this week and have really impressed me with their independence.

In English this week, we have been looking at the story of Rapunzel. Throughout the week, we have been comparing the traditional version that we all know, with the version written by Bethan Woolvin, where Rapunzel is a strong, independent girl who escapes from the tower all by herself! The children used some great vocabulary to describe Rapunzel's character and were able to compare and contrast the two versions really well.

In Maths, we have been securing our fluency with the numbers from 0-20. We have been finding doubles and near doubles, regrouping numbers and plotting them on number lines. The children showed confidence in all of these skills and were secure with using the equipment.

Our History topic for this term is 'The Great Fire of London' and the children have enjoyed finding out all about how the fire started this week. First, we made masks of key characters and used Lego to build our own bakery. Then we used drama to act out the key events before writing some sentences about how the fire started. It has been great to see the children's enthusiasm when learning about it.

The children have had reading books and records sent home this week so please ensure that you are reading regularly with your children at home. They also have brought home their new homework books which contain this weeks spellings, a writing task and a maths task. Homework is due in on a Thursday.

Thank you for a great first week back. Have a great weekend!
