What an amazing evening we had at St Martin's Church for our

KS2 Christmas Concert.

The children spoke up really well and sang beautifully. Thank you to friends and family who supported the children and to all the staff for preparing the children so well. Thank you to Rev Sarah and the congregation at St Martin's church for welcoming us into their lovely warm church building. It was a fantastic evening!

Thank you to Samson and Sophie who provided a fun morning

with the reindeer this morning!

The children learned lots of reindeer facts and it was very exciting to meet Santa with some real reindeer! We enjoyed icing biscuits and had such fun!

Thank you to the PTA for the brilliant Christmas Fair which raised £400 and paid for the pantomime Little Red Riding Hood. Thank you also to all the staff who stayed and helped and our wonderful parent volunteers!

EYFS wowed us with their Nativity play! What fantastic singing, the children thoroughly enjoyed the performance and the family and friends were captivated! Thank you to the staff for all their hard work preparing the children.

Thank you to the PTA for our pantomime! The children loved Little Red Riding Hood and joined in with gusto! Santa even made a guest appearance to check what we want for Christmas “Oh yes he did!”

Thank you to Ange for our amazing Christmas lunch, it was truly delicious! Thank you to all the staff and volunteers for all their hard work to make this such a success. The children enjoyed a traditional Christmas dinner and split into age groups to watch a Christmas film.

We made smoothies on the smoothie bikes, it was great fun!

We are very proud of the Year 5 football team, who were fantastic ambassadors to the school on Wednesday at Borehamwood FC’s football tournament. They finished third in their group with some great goals and performances, and showed a high level of sportsmanship throughout. We look forward to taking part in more matches and tournaments in the New Year.  Thank you to Miss Rawlings who was their coach and made a brilliant job of encouraging them throughout.

Year 2 have been learning about how Christians prepare

they also sang Happy Birthday to a lady 94 years of age and made her day! Thank you to Mrs Mackie and Miss Rawlings for taking the children.

Daisy and Melina switched on the Christmas lights at Shenley village hall on Monday. Shenley Primary School choir sang some Christmas songs to get us in the festive mood. The children and their families were treated with festive food and drinks to celebrate, what a lovely way to start the festive season!

At Forest School we have made ice art using natural materials, the weather has joined us and turned really icy!

EYFS have been learning about the Christmas story. We have heard lovely sounds coming from the Hall as they have been practising their nativity play.

Please come along to watch Tue 12th Dec at 9.30am.

The children have been collecting their coins for the Children's society in preparation for the Christingle service on Sunday 3rd December. Please send any remaining donations to school on Monday 4th December, thankyou.

Thank you to our gardeners Classic Gardens for the donation of a real 6ft Christmas tree, it is stunning!

Year 1 visited St Martin's Church on Monday as part of their RE topic learning about Baptism. Rev Sarah demonstrated what happens at a real Baptism by baptising baby Hulk Smash!

Year 1 Trip to St Martin's Church

Rev Sarah came to school to celebrate Remembrance Day on Monday.

Year 3 read the poem they had written in unison.

Year 6 read famous Remembrance Day poems.

Even the EYFS children sat quietly for a minute silence, well done!

and presented a wreath from the school. 

Thank you to all the parents who supported the EYFS Stay & Learn, it was so lovely to see the children 'in the flow' of child initiated learning! I think the parents had fun as well!

We are so delighted to announce that

Ofsted rated us as a 'GOOD' school!

Thank you to all the staff for their hard work over the last 6 years, it's been a real team effort, we are proud of our successes!!

The children were confident in speaking to the inspectors and showed them how great this school is and what they have all achieved, well done!

Rev Sarah came to assembly to teach us about the History of Hallowe'en and the meaning of All Saints Day. We learned a lot about the origins of this celebration.

Art club had fun creating glow in the dark skeletons to

celebrate Hallowe'en, spooky!!

Year 5 have been building vocabulary around

our book Wolf in the Snow.

Year 2 have really enjoyed the book ‘Wolf in the Snow’ this week. The children sequenced pictures from the book before deciding what imperative verbs and conjunctions they could use to write a set of instructions.

Please come and join in with the PTA Children and Parents Games evening

Friday 13th October at 4.30pm, it promises to be great fun!

Year 4 enjoyed having our parents in this week for Stay & Learn.

We sampled traditional Polish foods and discussed if we like them, thanks to the staff for working so hard to make this so enjoyable!

Year 1 - Drawing Shells

Year 1 have been learning about the artists Georgia O'Keeffe and Adriaen Coorte as part of their drawing topic in art this half term. This week they have been doing some observational drawings of shells, inspired by the work of the artists they studied. 

Year 5 have been testing how different materials are effected by air resistance. We made our own parachutes and tested to see

which material made the slowest fall.

Thank you to all the staff at Shenley Park, all the children had such a fantastic time tasting so many different varieties of delicious apples. We learned new ways to describe different flavours. Thank you to the parents who walked with us!

Morpurgo class had a challenge in Stay & Learn, they did a continuous line drawing of an object, the challenge was not to take your pencil off the page!

They also drew portraits of themselves and their parents. Thank you to all the parents who attended and to the staff for organising the fun!

 

Year 3 are learning about subtraction and using place value mats and

counters to represent their calculations.

Year 3 are learning about Netball in PE and improving their chest passes.

Their teamwork and sportsmanship is improving.

Thank you to Rev Sarah for her HARVEST talk which was a spelling challenge, Year 5 rose to the occasion to show off their brilliant spelling!

Shakespeare class have had a brilliant time at Runway's End.

Nursery have been exploring environmental sounds this week.

Year 3 compared a variety of rocks including sandstone, chalk, slate and marble. They then sorted them by their properties, it was fascinating!

Jeffers class have been exploring structures in DT and beginning to make model play equipment. We are designers!

In Science this week Year 1 have been sorting objects by the materials they are made from. We learned lots of new vocabulary along the way!

At the House Hustings the Y6 children gave a speech to explain why they would make great house captains. The children in their house voted and cheered the winners, well done Y6!

Ahlberg class have been reading the story Peepo by Janet and Allan Ahlberg and learning about life a long time ago before there was electricity.

Cooke class have been reading the story So Much by Trish Cooke.

Both stories are about families and we have been talking about people in our family.

Rev Sarah told us about Jesus' first miracle, turning water into wine!
