Rev Sarah Easter assembly

In EYFS this week we have been learning about Easter. We talked about the bridge in the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff and how it helped save the goats from starving because they could cross the river and get to the fresh green grass. We talked about how bridges can save or rescue someone and that Christians believe that Jesus saved people through his death and resurrection. The children have listened to the Easter story and made their own crosses.

We named our chicks!

'Chats with the chicks'-the children have really enjoyed holding the chicks this week. They have learned how to be gentle and listen out for a chick cheeping loudly to signal that it is not comfortable. They have also found that sitting holding the chicks has made for a great time having a sociable chat, about chicks or other things they have wanted to talk about.

'Chick maths'-the farmer keeps records of the chicks in each brooder on the farm. The children have helped him out by drawing chicks in a brooder and colour coding the girls and the boys. They have then written the number of each and the total number of chicks in each brooder. Now the farmer will be able to work out how many chicks there are altogether!

Rabbi Nick came to tell us about the Jewish celebration Purim

Thank you and Goodbye to Mrs Irvin, thank you for 17 years of being amazing at Shenley Primary School we will miss you so much!

We loved their actions for the Spring chicken song and admired their Easter egg artwork. Thank you to all the parents and carers who supported the assembly.

We had some inspiring entries for the Science fair to celebrate Science week.

Well done everyone who entered and thank you!

Thank you to Mrs Davis who organised Science week.

As part of British Science Week Year 1 have been keeping a weather diary and on Monday they had a go at giving a weather report.

Year 3 enjoying Science Week! Creating pendulums and measuring jump distance!

to the school. The children enjoyed the

Gruffalo joining them on the World Book Day parade!

World Book Day fun!

We decorated plates, here are the winners!

Saltmine Theatre Company came to tell us the Bible story in 45 minutes, it was a whistle stop tour!

We loved learning the story through drama and song. What a treat!

In Early Years we have been reading the story The Odd Egg. We have been learning about different creatures that hatch from eggs. We decorated a picture of an egg, painted pictures of creatures that might hatch from them and

made nests in Forest School.

In RE Yr2 have been looking at the symbols of Easter.

We even got to try some really tasty hot cross buns!

Rowling class entertained us with their fantastic Learning Assembly this morning, we loved their Jabberwocky poem and the way they dramatised it!

We learned all about the digestive system including the yucky bits!

Thank you to all the parents and carers who supported the assembly.

For safer internet day EYFS used the junk modelling to make 'technology devices'-laptops, phones, tablets, cameras. The children then played with them and talked about asking a grown up for help when they see something unexpected pop up. Some of the children used the laptop they had made to play

schools and take the register.

School council led our Children's Mental Health week assembly on Monday. The children have been doing special activities to support their mental health. The theme this year is "Our Voice Matters" and we have focused on listening to the children and their opinions to give them their voice.

Year 2 enjoyed a virtual workshop from the National Army Museum about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, it was really interesting to learn all about their lives such a long time ago!

Forest school fun!

ECO council designed some posters for a competition as part of the

Keep Britain Tidy Great British Spring Clean.

The children told me how dangerous it is for wildlife when we litter and how much they care for the environment.

We are looking forward to the visit of Chris Tawiah from Sports for Champions on Monday 12th February.  He won the BBL League Championship and the playoffs with the Leicester Riders, also winning the BBL cup with London Lions. This was very prestigious as these are some of the biggest achievements in British Basketball, especially the playoffs as that is the top 8 teams from the league. He hopes to inspire our children and help them to see that their dreams are not bigger than them and that anybody can chase them!

Please remember to get some sponsors in preparation for the day, thank you.

Cooking fun!

Year 3 have created graffiti inspired collages and they have been

painting pirate themed props for their assembly next week...

As part of our work on 'Internet Safety Day', the children in Year 6 thought about our digital footprint and how the things that we post online now will stay there in the future and could have an impact at a later stage of our lives. We discussed posting positive, kind comments and also monitoring what our friends post of us online. The children created these footprints of the apps that they use and some tips for creating a positive digital footprint.

We had a brilliant time at our Skipping workshop and the children enjoyed learning new skills. The facilitators commented how amazing our children are at skipping! Thank you to Miss Rawlings for organising this fantastic day!

Shakespeare class visited St Martin's church to learn about

the trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

They plaited the ribbon to symbolise a chord of three strands which is not easily broken. Thank you to Rev Sarah and Mrs Hall for the visit.

Art club have used clay to create a special something for someone....

We used a range of objects to create imprints and used a damp sponge to get a smoother finish.

In Early Years, we have been considering the question 'How can we help others when they need it?' We have been helping each other with our learning.

The children have also drawn pictures and written sentences about the things we do to help.

Shakespeare entertained us with their fantastic Learning Assembly this morning, we loved their tuneful singing and they spoke up well.

We learned all about Henry VIII and the dreadful fate of his poor wives!

EYFS have been exploring light and dark.

We have used torches to light up dark spaces (finding lots of interesting things under cupboards!) and made the light change colour.

We have even used our torches for reading words in the book corner.

Year 4 have been exploring what is the digestive system and how it works. The start of the digestive system is the teeth. We have conducted an investigation to see which liquids affect teeth and might cause decay.

The ECO council have spotted signs of the warmer weather as

our bulbs have started to grow!

We have been learning about weeding and tending plants.

In PSHE Year 2 have been working on achieving goals as a class.

The children played a game called ‘pass the ball’ and were challenged by Miss Atkinson to pass the ball as quickly as possible to each other without dropping it. The catch was, you couldn’t pass it to someone next to you!

They managed to get it down to 58 seconds!

Go Jeffers class!

'The Gruffalo's Child.'

In the story, the Gruffalo's child follows the tracks of different

creatures in the snow.

The children have explored different ways of making tracks with paint.

We had fun building dens in Forest School!

In Science, Year 2 have been learning about life cycles. This week they learnt that animals, including humans, have offspring which grow into adults. They used this information to create the life cycle of a duck.
