Week beginning 7/11/22

This week in Nursery and Reception we have been thinking about why we might have fireworks at this time of year. Last week we learned about the Gunpowder Plot and some of the children used chalk to draw pictures of the fireworks they had seen at the weekend.

Fireworks are also used as part of Diwali celebrations. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita. Sita was captured by an evil king who took her to an island. Rama befriended some monkeys who helped him to rescue Sita by building a bridge to the island, where Rama defeated the evil king. People lit lamps to welcome Rama and Sita home and this is why Diwali is celebrated as a festival of light.

The children have enjoyed building bridges this week.
