Week Beginning 6th March 2023 - Week 3

This week Year 1 have been working hard practising their assembly. We have been thinking about all the great learning we have done throughout the year, so that we could share what we have learnt with all our families. Year 1 did a great job remebering their lines and joining in with the songs.

We have also been really busy this week getting on with our new English topic learning about Emperor penguins and how they look after their eggs. We started by thinking about Antarctica. We painted pictures of the frozen land and came up with words to describe the environment. Then we read the story 'The Emperor's Egg'

In Maths, we have been describing 2D and 3D shapes using mathematical vocabulary. We thought about what makes a 2D shape and the difference between a line and a shape. We sorted a range of 3D objects and then chose one to describe to our friends using key vocabulary - faces, vertices, edges, curved, flat, etc. The other children in the group then had to guess which shape we were describing.

In Art we explored warm and cool colours and began to explore colour mixing.

In History we looked at a range od toys and thought about what the toy was made from, who might have played with it and if we have toys like this now.

In Science we sorted animals in different ways. We sorted the animals by those that can swim and can't swim, if they have wings, how many legs they have and by what they eat, meat, plants or both.
