Week beginning 6.2.23

This week we have been listening to and learning about some traditional tales.

Wee Willie Winkie

Wee Willie Winkie wrote the class a letter asking them to make a poster for him to tell the children to go to bed.

We made a map of the classroom using photographs of each area. We gave Wee Willie Winkie directions to get from one area to another. We had to remember to use directional language, such as forwards, backwards, turn towards, under, over and through.

The Gingerbread Man

We decorated pictures of the gingerbread man and counted the buttons.

The Three Little Pigs

Some of the children had a go at building a house of bricks, but their walls were easy to knock down. We had a look at how the bricks were laid on the school wall and discovered that if we used this pattern it made the wall much stronger.

The children wrote lists of materials they would need to build a house for the three little pigs and then used the resources in the classroom to build their house.

Chicken Licken

Chicken Licken believes the sky is falling down and the world is going to end when an acorn falls on his head and decides to go and tell the king. Along the way he meets others such as Ducky Lucky, Heny Penny, Goosey Loosey, Turkey Lurkey ...

We made maps and gave Chicken Licken directions to get to the King's house without going past Foxy Loxy.

Safer Internet Day

On Tuesday it was safer internet day. We listened to a story about Hanni and the magic window and used this to think about the games we might play on the internet and what we might see. Most of the time, the internet is a fun place to explore and learn, but not everything on the internet is for children. We talked about what we should do if we see something there that we do not like.

It is important to have these discussions at home-read the story with your child and talk about how to stay safe online.
