Week beginning 5.12.22

Week 13 and Year 5 got a chance to celebrate all of their hard work!

On Friday, year 5 enjoyed a pyjama day to celebrate filling our class marble jar. In the afternoon, we enjoyed popcorn, sweet treats and juice along with lots of music, colouring and an extra-long golden time!

In English year 5 wrote Cinquain poems about soldiers and poppies inspired by the famous poem In Flanders Fields. We then looked at different landscapes and picture stimuli to generate engaging, descriptive sentences.

In maths we’ve explored fractions, fractions, fractions! We stared by looking at proper fractions and then improper fractions and even mixed fractions. I was super impressed with their ability to verbally explain the numerator, demonisation and how to change one type of fractions into another.

In History Morpurgo Class discovered the different clothes the Maya wore depending on their status. They considered the differences between Priests, noble men and women, farmers, soldiers, slaves, craftsmen and more!

In Science the children recapped their learning by organising different objects into the categories gears, levers and pulleys. We then examined different images to see the forces acting upon them - friction, air/water resistance, gravity, push, pull - well done, everyone.

In French the children learned the names of the seasons! They confidently translated “In winter it snows and it is cold” into French! Great accents too!

Week 13 is complete and there’s so much more to look forward to in Year 5!

Stay safe.
