Week Beginning 30th January 2023 - Week 5

This week Year 1 have been writing their own stories about a magic tree in English. Last week we had a go at acting out how we would plant our tree and what we would do with the amazing things that grew on it. We also drew out the plan. This week we have been writing up a small section of the story each day, focusing on remebering our capital letters and full stops, finger spaces and using our phonics knowledge to sound out words we don't know. We also looked at different ways to start our sentences and talked about using 'and' to join ideas together.

In Maths we have started a new sequence which focuses on estimating. We have been estimating abouts in practical ways and on Friday attempted one of the 'destination questions' for the unit in pairs. We estimated which group of objects we thought had more then used tens frames to check.

In Science we have continued to learn about seasonal changes after recording the weather over the course of a week, we took turns giving weather reports, thinking about what the weather is usually like in the winter.

In DT we continued to explore different mechanisms and planned our design for our final piece which we will be completing next week.
