Week Beginning 27.3.23

Week 8 and Morpurgo class dress up for World Book Day!

Everyone had so much fun celebrating World Book Day. We took part in an online footy quiz event. We did some Drop Everything And Read (inside and on the playground). We had a special assembly and even had a parade around the playground to show off the amazing costumes! Mr Donnellan read lots of Harry Potter and the children created magic-themed bookmarks.

In English year 5 have written the next three paragraphs of a suspense story. Everyone really focused on editing each sentence to ensure every noun, adjective and verb was successfully scary!

In maths we have been looking at the relationship between percentages, fractions and decimals. I was really impressed with how they used different strategies to find percentages of an amount. For example finding 27% of a number!

In Science we e researched the Apollo 11 Moon Landing! Everyone got hard at work creating stunning newspaper articles detailing this historic moment.

In History Morpurgo classconsidered the significance of Sutton Hoo. We looked at different artefacts archaeologists found and discussed what they tell us about Anglo-Saxon life!

In DT we thought about the Eat-Well plate and considered how bread products fit into a healthy diet. The children used tally marks to fill out a questionnaire about how often people at Shenley eat bread!

We said an emotional goodbye to Mrs Smith. We wish her the best on her next exciting adventure.

Week 8 is complete and there’s so much more to look forward to in Year 5!

Stay Safe,

Mr Donnellan
