Week beginning 26th September 2022

This week in English we have been finishing off our writing linked to the story 'Farmer Duck'.  We started off writing some bossy instructions, then moved on to creating a story map showing the main events in the story.  We have spent the last couple of lessons using our story maps to write the main events using words like 'first', 'then' and 'after that' to sequence the story.  Next week we will be starting a new focus text - 'Voices in the Park'.

In maths this week we have been matching amounts to cards, playing cards and dice and practising our subitising and counting skills.  Later in the week we learnt language linked to comparison including bigger, smaller, more, less, fewer and least making practical comparisons using equipment around the room.

Our main highlight of the week has been our visit on Tuesday to Shenley Park to learn all about apple juicing with Liz Ensor.  First of all everyone got to try a wide range of different apples which grow in the orchards at the park. Then the children had great fun and learnt how to cut and then press the apples.  Afterwards they were all keen to run around the mini theatre with the terraces and loved rolling down on the grass!

Also this week, the class have been very busy voting in our representatives for School Council and our Eco-Council reps.  Yesterday we had our hustings with the Year 6 children in Yellow House and two willing candidates were voted in to be House Captain and Deputy House Captain.

We were all sad to see Mrs Gellman leave on Friday but we all came together in an assembly to celebrate her time with us!  Good luck Mrs Gellman!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
