Week beginning 14.11.22
Week 10 and Year 5 continue to uncover information about the Maya!
During House Day, we had a lot of fun and learnt so much about ourselves and others. I got the chance to discuss the spirituality with each group. The children generated many ideas about the term before we enjoyed some Minecraft-themed yoga!
In English year 5 began their shared write for each paragraph of our explanation text. Next week we will complete our hot write - I can’t wait to see how they turn out!
In maths we have been looking at using our understanding of place value to do column additions and subtractions. Lovely use of mathematical vocabulary from the children.
In Guided Reading Year 5 enjoyed diving into our new book “The Shaman’s Apprentice”. This links nicely to our learning on jungle living, survival and settlements.
In History Morpurgo class spent time exploiting the sophisticated Maya writing system, their advanced number system and the incredible Maya calendar!
Excellent singing filled the air as the children showed how well they knew the Christmas Carols. Next week, the words won’t be on the board…

We are looking forward to our trip on Tuesday!
Week 10 is complete and there’s so much more to look forward to in Year 5!
