Week beginning 12th September 2022

This week we have been continuing with our focus text 'Farmer Duck'. We have identified the plot, setting and story characters.  Also, we have thought of words and phrases to describe the main characters 'Duck' and the 'Farmer'.  The children have explored different character roles with their learning partners which was very amusing!

In maths the class have been learning new vocabulary linked to ordinal numbers, and then been applying that learning in a range of practical ways.  We have been practising the key skills of subitising and the children have been recalling some of their prior learning in their Reception year.  The children have been working in their maths groups well and learning how to do their maths practically, say their maths and then draw their maths as modelled by the teacher.  We have been using tens frames and talking about tens frames.

Not only that we have been singing a range of familiar number songs together as a class!

We have been outside in science to look for different types of leaves and to find leaves of different colours.  On return to the classroom the children generated vocabulary which they could use to describe their leaves using words like spikey, round, jagged, yellow, furry etc. They have stuck their chosen leaves into their science books and labelled them.  We have been talking about the four seasons and the features of the seasons.

In DT some children decided to design and make their own hand puppets this week and they loved doing this - we will carry this over into next week.

The children will be receiving their yellow homework books today. Please could you send this back to school by next Thursday.  The homework will alternate between phonics and maths each week.

Just a reminder that library books need to be sent in on a Wednesday so that we can change them in our allocated library session.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and we will see you back at school on Tuesday 20th September.
