Week beginning 10th October 2022

This week we have been reading the story 'Where's my Teddy?'.  The children have shared a time when they lost something special with their learning partners and with the class.  We have identified the two main characters in the story and discussed how the characters were feeling at different points of the story.  We then wrote about and sequenced events in the story.  On Friday we all made a 'Wanted' poster for the lost teddy which the children really enjoyed doing.

In maths this week we have been learning to identify the values of Cuisennaire rods and sequencing them by their values.  We have been showing amounts using 10s frames, bead strings and rods and matching them to numbers.  We have been combining rods to make different amounts.

This Thursday we had the 'Dogs Trust' visiting and this was very engaging for the children.  They learnt a lot about how to treat and look after a dog and learn some very important rules about how to stay safe around dogs.

In geography the class walked around the school grounds identifying and drawing features in the environment that are 'physical' and 'human'.

We have had great fun listening to and appraising a variety of rap music from the 80s and practising singing our song 'Hey you!'.  This week we all had the opportunity to play the glockenspiels and Mrs Scanzi joined in playing the recorder as Mrs Winsor did some conducting!

We hope you have a lovely weekend and we are looking forward to our whole school book week next week when we will all be using the text 'Tango makes three' as a springboard for our English learning.  Next week in maths we will be learning to use part-whole models to show our practical calculations.

We will also be carrying on with our DT topic making some puppets using wooden spoons!
