Week beginnging 25.9.23

This week we have been learning about why the word God is important to Christians. We were introduced to 2 children, through stories, called Tom and Tessa. Tom and Tessa had made a treasure bag with pictures of things that were important to them inside-a teddy, a torch, a bracelet, a toy dinosaur, a wooden cross and a picture of a church. They explained that some things are special to them because they are Christians. We decorated our own treasure bags. Tom and Tessa introduced the word 'VIP' to the children and we talked about the people who are important to us. The children drew a picture of their VIP and put it in their treasure bag. Tom and Tessa said that God is a VIP for Christians.

Tom and Tessa explained that God is important to Christians because they believe that he created the world. Tom was interested in jellyfish and liked the fact that God created jellyfish even though they can sting. We listened to the creation story and talked about all the things Christians believe God made. The children painted jellyfish and really enjoyed exploring gelli play in the water tray.

We talked about how Christians believe that God created the world. We thought about how the word 'create' means to make something. The children are always proud of the things they make in school.

Tom and Tessa wrote a letter to the childrenn to tell them all about their harvest festival celebrations and how this is a way of saying thank you to God for all the food he has created for us to eat. The children went to the school harvest festival assembly and took part in some harvest activities-fruit and vegetable printing, close observation of cut up pieces of fruit and some food tasting.

Tom and Tessa introduced us to some bible stories. One day, after Tessa was found playing with her mum's pearls and not looking after them or treating them with care, Tessa's mum told her the bible story called 'the precious pearl'. We listened to the story and thought about how we should take care of precious things. The children enjoyed creating their own bracelet, taking care over how they handled the precious beads and threaded them carefully. We have put their bracelets in their treasure bags for them to bring home next week.
