Week beginning 6.9.2021

Good afternoon - what a super first week back Year 3 have had! They have settled really nicely and it has been lovely getting to know them more. As I am sure you are aware, we have had some glorious sunshine these past few days but despite that, the children’s work ethic to coming back to school has been great.

We have started our new Guided Reading story ‘The Owl Who was afraid of the Dark’ by Jill Tomlinson. It is a heart- warming story that the children are enjoying reading. We have spent time this week focusing on vocabulary and inferencing.

Our story for English (which is a whole school text) is called ‘Traction Man’ which is all about an action figure who saves objects around the house. We have worked on sentence structure, verbs, adjectives and adverbs this week.

In maths, we will focusing on the place value:

  • recognising the hundreds, tens and ones/units in three digit numbers
  • compare and order numbers up to 1000
  • read and write numbers up to 1000 in numerals and in words
  • solve number problems and practical problems involving these ideas

In history our topic this term is: Stone Age through to the Iron Age and will focus on the enquiry question… Which AGE would I rather live in and why?

Our Science topic this term is: ROCKS! If anyone has any ideas where I am able to locate different types of soil, please do let me know!

In Art this week, we created POPART pictures in the style of Roy Lichtenstein who created comic book art.

Have a lovely weekend everyone, stay safe and I will see you all on Monday.
