Week beginning 20th September 2021

This week the children have looked at negative numbers and counting forward and backwards across zero. They looked at examples of this in everyday life and reading scales. Thermometers and temperatures are good ways to show this to children.

In English the children have continued to look at Wolves in the Wall which has involved some very humorous lessons imaging what we might do if we were Lucy and her family. The class which made us laugh most and produced some great writing was imagining we were the family inside the wall, looking out the pictures and watching the pack of wolves acting like crazy clowns!

Science involved us exploring gravity- thanks Isaac Newton!- and seeing if there is a link to the mass (kg) of an object and its weight (newtons) which measures the force gravity exerts on an object. In physics, the term weight has a specific meaning different to how we use 'weight' in everyday language. The children were able to use newton meters and scales to measure both.

In Jigsaw (our Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education, PSHCE) we did some mindful calming meditation before looking at the rights a child has, supporting these rights and how children who may be a refugee are affected, and most importantly the responsibility we have to support these rights.

Music allowed us to have a bit of a 'rock out' to Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer! We tried to learn the first verse and took part in some rhythm activities.
