week beginning 28th March 2022
This week has seen Morpurgo Class be artists, scientists, writers, mathematicians and fearsome Viking warriors! And what fun its been! The children completed their Hockney inspired pieces of art work which attempted to incorporate a horizon line and give a sense of perspective by using a vanishing point to draw the eye through the picture. We also thought about the colour choices, using complementary colours and mixing colours using only red, blue and yellow using white and black to develop tint and shade.
In Science we finished exploring properties of materials and looking at reversible and irreversible changes.
As we had finished Polly Ho-Yen's wonderful and heart stopping book Boy in the Tower were able to explore the work of Benjamin Zephaniah, performing his poetry and using Talkin' Turkeys as inspiration of our own poem.
In maths we considered perimeter and how to calculate the perimeter of compound shapes and find out missing calculations.
Our Viking Day was cold and damp and it proved to us just how hardy the Vikings actually were!! We had to come inside to the 'Longhouse' to warm up and complete the weaving. Vikings loved their jewellery and the children made Brooches or belt buckles. Then it was outside to have Mead, garlic mushrooms cooked on an open fire, oat cakes and honey. In the afternoon we played the traditional Viking games of Kubbs and Kingy bat.
