Week beginning 15th November
We have a had a great week looking at mental strategies in Maths and the children tried doubling and halving, difficult multiplications, finding base facts for some calculations and deciding which strategy helps.
In English the children have been learning the skill of using fronted adverbials, adding phrases to develop descriptions and practising using speech marks.
We looked at pulleys, gears and levers and explored further how they effect the amount of force is used, in Science. The children had lots of animated discussion finding examples around the classroom.
The children finished off their self portraits influenced by the Mexican Artist Frida Kahlo and they left the original as a pencil sketch. So they could explore colour without the worry of changing it indefinitely, we copied the original and they were able to experiment on a duplicate. We had some lovely results.
Jazz was the focus of our music lesson and we had a first practise on the glockenspiels. The children had some very interesting improvisational performances.
