Week commencing 12th October
This week in Swansea class the children have continued their excellent start to the academic year, and have really impressed me with their learning behaviours. In English, we have been focusing on using precise language and the children have been using high level vocabulary from our current text 'Monsterology'. I am also very impressed with how good the children are getting at using dictionaries to help them to define unknown words and also their use of the working wall during their lessons.
In Maths this week we have been looking at decimals and the children have shown that they are able to round to the nearest whole number and also convert from fractions to decimals. This can sometimes be an area that children find particularly tricky but in Swansea class they have picked it up quickly and have really impressed me! We have used equipment to build the decimal numbers and this has also helped.
Mexico is our topic for geography and this week we put everything we have learnt together to make our own travel guides. I was so impressed with these and loved reading them. The children have been so enthusiastic throughout the topic and it is great to see how much they have learnt. I think we may have a few future travel writers among us!
In PE this week the children got the opportunity to try archery. They really enjoyed it and did really well considering it was the first time for many of them. We will have another go next week too!
