Week beginning 8.3.2021

Wow – first week back and what a fantastic week it was! The children had huge grins (some slightly tired faces in the afternoon) pretty much all week, as did I. It has been lovely having them all back in school!

They all shared their ‘Magic Box’ poems and we discussed the figurative language used (I am sure you are all expert about it too). The children loved reading out their poems and looked ever so proud.

We have been focusing on reactivating their learning in regards to Place Value and addition & subtraction in maths. We spent some time looking at how many ‘tens’ four digit numbers have such as 4071 and 4117. Some children thought 4071 had the most tens because of the digit ‘7’, forgetting that the 4000 has 400 tens.  Therefore, it was a good recap as they soon remembered quickly.

Dance started back again this week and we have a new fab teacher called Lucy! Any practising at home will be very much appreciated by Lucy! The children started to remember the routine they had started but very much enjoyed bopping about again.

In Science, we recapped our learning about teeth and we were finally able to create ear defenders and test how well materials insulate sound. There were some funny looking ear defenders made…

PE is on a Wednesday, please can the children wear their PE kits to school and forest school is on Tuesday afternoons. For forest school, we ask that the children wear their school uniform but bring their forest school clothes in a bag.

I will set homework on mathletics and TT Rockstars as well as sending weekly spellings home. Reading is very important, please could you ensure your child is reading at home as much as possible. For mathletics this week, I have focused on place value as this is the domain we have been revisiting in class.

Have a great weekend and try not to get blown away! J
