Week beginning 15.3.21
This week was very exciting as African drums returned! Miss Bradford was very impressed with what the children had retained from last term. We also had a Watford FC come into school to focus on reading and PE skills with the children, which the children loved!
In English, the children we building up their vocabulary by reading and magpie-ing words and phrases from the myth ‘City and Dreams’. We discussed figurative language; identifying metaphors, similes, alliteration, repetition, and personification. The children then shared what image these features created and why the writer has used them. After, the children went on to writing their own descriptions of Neptune, God of the sea. I was very impressed with the children’s rich vocabulary used and they are eager to share their descriptions next week.
In maths, we were reactivating mental strategies. We were looking at rounding up numbers to the nearest, 10, 100 and 1000, as well as estimating answers to addition sums. An example would be 598+237 could be rounded to: 600+240.
In RE this week, we were learning about Sikhism. We discussed how the religion was founded and what Sikhs believe and follow. Hopefully, the children have shared with their learning about the 5K’s (Kara, Kesh, Kanga, Kachera, Kirpan).
In science, we went back to our learning about digestion. We labelled parts of the digestive system and used the pretend human body we have in school to discuss their functions.
Once again, the children worked very hard this and are showing great resilience! I have set Mathletics TT Rockstars and spellings are in the children’s reading records.
Just as another reminder: Parents Evening is next Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday is also our Roman Day. You child can dress up as a Roman and share their quiz they may have made with the class. On Friday is the whole school ‘Hopathon’ and a whole school picnic (in our bubbles).
Have a lovely weekend J
