Week beginning 10th May 2021

We have been having lots of fun this week starting to share some poems by the poet Spike Milligan.  We have given the children the challenge to learn the poem

'On the Ning Nang Nong' which we have sent home for them to practise.   We will be having a go at writing some of our own 'nonsense' poems over the next week.  In maths we have been particularly focussed on problem solving and using part-whole and bar models to show the calcuations. Also we have continued learning about measures and using the language linked to mass to make comparisons between a range of items using the pan balances.

In geography we have discussed what we enjoyed and learnt following our artic explorer visit and written letters to say thank you to Bob.  In science this week we have been learning about the parts of a plant and starting to re-pot and plant out some of our seedlings.

Next week we are starting a book week and our focus is poetry by Spike Milligan - please keen practising the 'On the Ning Nang Nong' which we sent home last week.  In maths we will be continuing with developing our problem solving skills as well as learning to 'find all possibilities'.  Also we are continuing with our work on measures and making comparisons between speeds of cars/animals etc. using the maths language linked to this for example slower, slowest, faster, fastest, quicker, the same.

In geography we are finding out more about Shenley Village and it's special features as well as looking at maps of Shenley.  In science we will be focussing on changes to our Sycamore tree, comparing leaves on plants and caring for our re-potted plants.

We look forward to another exciting week ahead in Hertfordshire class!

Thank you to all of you for your support!  Please remember to read at home as frequently as you can, even if it is only for a short time daily and then sign your child's reading record to say you have read with them.
