Week beginning 07/06/21

This week has been a Science Week. The children have enjoyed exploring activities with a scientific focus.

We have been learning about how to look after the plants in our classroom. We read the story of the enormous turnip. In the story, the little old man talks to his seedlings to help them to grow. He also makes sure he waters them and weeds the soil. What do you think we need to do to keep our plants healthy?

The children have been finding out about magnets this week. They found lots of things that a magnet will stick to, and lots of things it won't. Some of the children were able to predict what the magnet would stick to and were looking for things made out of a certain material. Do you know what that material might be?

The children have had opportunities to explore different materials. We have had cornflour and gelli-play outside. The children tried to describe their texture and talked about what happened when we added water.

Two children used their knowledge of materials and their problem solving skills to build a giant aqueduct over the 'road' for the bikes to go under. They checked for leaks and really enjoyed pouring the water in at the end to see if they had achieved their goal.
