When one of the children said that Halloween "isn't happening this year" we decided to have a Halloween week in school. The children have listened to stories about Winnie the Witch and her cat Wilbur. When Winnie needs to do some magic, she waves her wand and shouts
The children have made their own wands and written their own spells.
The children decided that they wanted to decorate the classroom for Halloween. They wanted to make pumpkins, but we had no orange paper! Instead, they mixed red and yellow paint and painted large pieces of white paper to turn them orange. When the paper was dry, they drew a pumpkin shape, cut it out and used black paint to decorate it.
The children have also enjoyed making ghosts, spiders and bats to decorate the classroom. They have enjoyed dressing up in Halloween costumes and using the wands they have made to cast spells.
After half term we will be learning about fireworks. We will be finding out about how to keep safe around fireworks. We will also have to opportunity to build our own junk modelling fireworks and create fireworks pictures. In maths we will be practising counting reliably using number names in order and with one to one correspondence. In phonics we will be learning letter sounds h, b, f and l. Keep practising the letters and activities in your phonics packs-the children are doing really well and those who confidently know sounds and are blending to read words have been allocated books to read online on the phonics bug website.
