What another fantastic week of learning in Kent Class! Not only did we enjoy visits from the Panto Bus and welcomed the new fish into the Reception Area, we also got to learn about rebalancing in Maths and sorting and grouping materials in Science.
In Maths, Year 1 have continued to look at making numbers up to 20, but included work on how to find one more and one less using a tens frame. We introduced the word 'fewer' into our mathematical vocabulary too.
In Year 2, we have been continuing our learning on rebalancing sums. First we looked at rounding numbers to the nearest 'ten' and then introduced rebalancing with numbers other than 9 or 11. We learnt that if the ones digit is 5,6,7,8,9 we round up, whereas if it is 4,3,2,1 or 0 we round down. We then applied our knowledge to buying toys for Christmas and how we would be able to add up these calculations in our head whilst rebalancing.
In Art, we have looked at printing using foam blocks and creating regular and irregular patterns. We then prepped ourselves for our lesson next week by creating our own block using cardboard that we will be able to print with to create our own unique patterns.
Next week we will be learning about solids, liquids and gases and will be melting chocolate to look at how materials can change through heat. We will also be practising for the Christmas Play and learning all about Sir Winter through descriptive writing.
