Week 3 - 9th March 2020

As usual in Hertfordshire Class we have had a very busy time!  We have been very creative this week writing our own poems about planets and space rockets linked to our theme ‘Into the Unknown’.  Also, we met a mystery character on Thursday and we wrote down all of the clues we could find in a picture with some helpers who came in for our ‘Stay and Learn’ session!

In Maths we have been focussing on measures learning to compare the length and the height of objects, weighing items and on Thursday sending cars down ramps to find out which was the ‘slowest’ and which was the ‘fastest’!

Our fundraising day for ‘Sports Relief ’went well and the children went home exhausted after joining in with 4 different exercise sessions in the morning!  We all had a wonderful time and the children behaved beautifully.

Next week we will be sharing the book ‘Man on the Moon’ and getting to know our main character in more depth.

In Maths we will be using the language of time and learning about the days of the week, sequencing events as well as the months and the seasons of the year.

As part of our art project for the next couple of weeks the children will firstly be designing something linked to our space theme – for example an alien or space ship.

Please could you talk to your child about what they would like to make and then start collecting junk modelling (like small boxes, tubes, bottle lids, foil etc) which they can then use to make their 3-D model on Wednesday 25th March. Please send this is in a named plastic bag with your child on that day (any spares would be very welcome). We would also love some extra sellotape and masking tape if anyone could possibly provide some.  It would be lovely to have some extra helpers on that afternoon if anyone is available from 1.45pm.  Please speak to Mrs Scanzi or Mrs Warren.

Thank you to everyone who came along the ‘Stay and Learn’ session.  We hoped you enjoyed joining in the children’s learning.
