Week 3 - 21st September 2020
This week in Plymouth class, they have worked really well with their peers. During learning time, they have had many opportunities to discuss and share their own ideas. I was particularly impressed with how most of the children listened to their partner’s ideas and thoughts.
In maths, we focused on place value by looking at how many hundreds and tens are equal to a 1000. Any representation needed to support their learning is widely encouraged a home such as drawing the dienes. We also moved onto rounding to the nearest ten, hundred and thousand.
In English, it’s been very exciting as the children have been planning their adventure stories which involves their own mythical creature. Today, they actually went on to become storywriters and next week they will edit and share them. A key focus with their writing was to include vivid descriptive language and to write in paragraphs. I was so impressed with their positive attitudes with their writing; some of the children even asked if they could take their English books home to finish!
In topic, the children were learning about ancient Egyptian god and goddesses. They stunned that they were over 2000 of them. The children drew and wrote about some of the gods and goddesses who were half-human and half animal. In Science, we were learning about electricity and how to be safe. The children created their own posters to help prevent people from having any accidents with electrical appliances.
