Week 24th - 28th Feb

First week back after half term was fairly hectic but very fun!

In maths, the children were developing their knowledge about the properties of 2D shapes with particular focus on lines of symmetry. Using mirrors, they were rotating the shapes to visually see the lines of symmetry. Some of them could not believe a pentagon had 5 lines of symmetry and hexagon had 6 and so on.

In English, the whole class have been gripped with the adventures of Odysseus! We started with the chapter about the cyclops to which they were instantly hooked. We discussed some complex vocabulary from the text using dictionaries. They loved creating a persuasive poster preventing people from sailing to the island.

In design and technology (hopefully the children informed you) we made tzatziki and hummus! It was a very interesting afternoon and the children certainly experimented. First, they researched Greek traditional food using the chromebooks and then we decided on two dips to make. The majority loved the tzatziki but felt the hummus was very bland and tasteless! Most of them also tried black olives, which they also enjoyed.

A big thank you to those children who have been reading at home and practising their spellings. It is certainly showing in their writing. Have a lovely weekend everyone – try and stay dry!
