Week 2 - 2nd March
World Book Day
We have had a very exciting week based around World Book Day which was on Thursday! We dressed up as our favourite book characters and read some of the books. It was a lot of fun !
Potatoes dressed up as book characters
As you know, we were asked to bring in potatoes dressed up as book characters and everyone was amazed and pleased at the response! Thank you to all the parents and carers who helped us create such wonderfully creative potatoes.
Here are some photos:
As well as reading our favourite books this week, we focused on a very interesting book called ' I am a wonder'. The theme of the book is that we are all different , unique and special . The main character was being rejected and bullied because he was different from the other children. We discussed why we should accept others as they are and why we should value the differences between us.
Auggie, the main character , had a 'safe place' he would go to when he was safe which was a space helmet. We talked about our 'safe places' and how we react when we feel upset or hurt. We wrote some lovely poems using lots of similes about this. We are also in the process of writing persuasive letters . We are pretending to be Auggie and are writing to the children who have been horrible to him, explaining why they should be kinder and more accepting of people.
Please ask me about this book and what I have learned from it.
We painted gorgeous self-portraits and talked about each of us being 'a wonder'.
This week , we continued working on Division and also completed our work on Perimeter.
We are continuing to develop our football skills with the coach from Watford Football club and also having great fun. He said that we were collaborating more together and as a result , our teamwork had improved a lot.
Our skills in street dance are improving rapidly and our dance routines are coming on very well. We are looking forward to you all coming to see us on Thursday 21st of May.
