Happy New Year and welcome back!

The new year started off with great excitement as the children participated in science week. We talked about how different materials change when you mix them and had a very interesting discussion about the texture of wet sand and dry sand. The children talked about how dry sand is soft like a teddy because you can squash it, but it is rough like a hard wall. We tried to understand the difference between rough, smooth, hard and soft. The children were excited about adding water to the sand and noticed that the water started off as a puddle, but then 'disappeared', leaving the sand wet and cold. They enjoyed exploring the sand with their hands.

On Wednesday and Thursday morning, the children took part in science week activities across the school. They went with other children in their house teams and met with other class teachers to take part in making the best paper aeroplane, finding out about air resistance by making parachutes, looking through microscopes and learning about forces. The children all enjoyed the different activities and we are looking forward to finding out about different projects completed at home in tomorrow's science fair (Friday.)
