Week 1 - 24th February 2020
This week in Hertfordshire Class we have been working in groups to share our knowledge of Space as we start our new topic ‘Into the Unknown’. The children have been very excited about this!
Our focus for Literacy this week has been poetry and the children have been learning short poems off by heart and practising reciting them to the class with a partner, and sometimes on their own! We have also been having a go at writing our own space poems.
In Maths we have been working hard to identify odd and even numbers and looking for the doubles which make the even numbers to twenty. We have been solving problems and learning to give reasons and explanations for our answers.
We have been practising Mindfulness in class as part of our ‘Wellbeing’ week. On Thursday we were lucky to have a visiting yoga teacher in who very kindly ran a half hour session for the class in the hall. Also we have had a visit from Mrs Henman (our school family support worker) who took a meditation session with the children which they also thoroughly enjoyed.
In Art the children loved looking at images of Space and creating their own space pictures using paints or oil pastels.
Next week we will be continuing with our Space theme in English and in Maths we will be learning to identify 2D and 3D shapes, using the Maths vocabulary linked to shape to describe what we can see in detail. On Thursday we are inviting the children to come in dressed up as their favourite book character and bedtime stories evening will be running on Wednesday. We look forward to seeing you there!
