LI: To understand how animals adapt for changing seasons

Think about animals during the winter.

Where do they go?

How do they keep warm?

How do they find food?

There are three ways in which animals look after themselves in the Winter. They either:

  • hibernate
  • migrate
  • adapt

Have a look at what these three things mean and which animals fall into the different categories.

Task:

Attached are three different levels of worksheets that you can do (please choose the one appropriate for you!)

  • match the animals to whether they hibernate, migrate or adapt
  • pick an animal that hibernates, migrates and adapts, draw it and write about what they do in winter
  • Choose an animal which adapts its behaviour or appearance to survive winter. Draw a picture and write some sentences to explain what it does.
