Reading and Phonics Home-School Partnership
In Exeter class, children will be heard read at least twice a week by a member of teaching staff. This will be recorded in your child's reading record book with a comment on explicit reading skills for fluency and comprehension. Adult helpers may also hear your child read in school. This will be recorded in your child's reading book with an 'I have read with an adult today' stamp. Children will change their reading book on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They will have a phonics-matched book to take home and practise. Please read with your child daily and sign their reading record book. Please also practise the phonics cards in their phonics packs. Reception year group specific phonics and key words can be found in the support pages of your child’s reading record. Reading books, reading record books and phonics packs should be kept in your child's book bag so that we can update them when needed.
Children will also have a library book which will be changed on Wednesdays. This book is one that has been chosen to read for enjoyment which, as discussed at the parent reading workshop (slides can be found under the parent workshops section) you might read to your child.
