Reading/VIPERS
Our final week of 'Rapunzel'. As part of this, I would like you to look at the book (pictures below) and discuss the answers (writing them down) with your adult.
Monday:
Retrieval: Look carefully at these pages. What can you see?
Inference: What might Rapunzel be thinking and feeling when she sees the witch?
Explain: Why does Bethan Woollvin use an ellipsis on page 16? How should this be read? What might come next?
Tuesday:
Retrieval: Rapunzel says that the leaf must have blown in through the window. True or false?
Explain: Are there any words or phrases that have been repeated on these pages? Why might this be?
Vocabulary: Why is ‘TERRIBLE’ written in capital letters? How should this be read?
Explain: How do we know the witch is angry? Look at the words and pictures on these pages!
Inference: What has Rapunzel got hidden behind her back? Why might she have these?
Predict: Predict what will happen to the witch as she climbs out the window?
Wednesday:
Retrieval: How does Rapunzel defeat the witch?
Inference: What might Rapunzel be thinking and feeling as she cuts her hair?
Explain: The witch deserves to be sent tumbling to the ground. Do you agree? Why? Why not?
Thursday:
Inference: Why are the witch’s cursing days done? What has happened to her?
Inference: What is Rapunzel going to do now that she’s free?
Explain: Rapunzel is brave. Do you agree? Why? Why not?
Explain: Compare this version of Rapunzel to another Rapunzel story. Use a Venn Diagram to think about how the stories are similar and how they are different.
Explain: Would you like to read this story again? Why? Why not?
Explain: Which character did you find the most interesting? Why?
Friday:
Writing opportunity: Create a wanted poster for a fairy tale witch!
